Château de Corcelles, a castle in Beaujolais

Château de Corcelles dans le Beaujolais

A former defensive stronghold that became a seigniorial residence, the Château de Corcelles opens its doors to the public to discover its architecture, which is as elegant as the wines you will have the opportunity to taste.

When you think of vineyards and châteaux, Bordeaux generally springs to mind. However, the Beaujolais region has nothing to envy its western neighbour, with some very fine châteaux nestling among the vines. Château de Corcelles, between Fleurie and Belleville, is one of them. Built on what was once a medieval fortress on the border between the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire, the château dates back to the 15th century. However, it was during the 16th and 17th centuries that it acquired its current appearance, with its strong Renaissance influences. You can visit the castle* with an audio guide. It will take you through a number of rooms, including the chapel, the dungeon, the castle cellars and the kitchen. Allow around 30 minutes for the tour, which concludes with a wine tasting. Château de Corcelles is first and foremost a wine estate covering 87 hectares, 80 of which are given over to Gamay, the king of Beaujolais grapes, and 7% to Chardonnay. Chardonnay naturally produces white Beaujolais, while Gamay is used for reds under the Fleurie, Morgon and Brouilly appellations, as well as for rosé.

Group visits

Château de Corcelles can organise an exclusive visit, during which the château’s living room and flats will be opened to you for a wine and food tasting. These visits are reserved for groups of 6 to 8 people and by appointment only.

*On Saturdays, it is advisable to call before coming, as the château sometimes hosts weddings.
