Château Gaillard, a family story

Chateau Gaillard en Beaujolais

The latest in a long line of winegrowers, Sébastien Gutty proudly defends the colours of Beaujolais on the 12-hectare Château Gaillard estate in the commune of Villié-Morgon.

Sébastien Gutty is the latest in a long line of winegrowers. The Gutty family have been winegrowers from father to son for seven generations. And that’s just the beginning! Sébastien set up in 1997 at Château Gaillard, the 12-hectare estate acquired by his family in 1972. Situated in the commune of Villié Morgon, it produces Morgon, the village’s flagship appellation, but also has vines in the Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent appellations. From the campsite, you can go to the Château Gaillard estate to visit its cellar or admire the beautiful wine press that stands in front of the château and, of course, taste three of the 10 Beaujolais crus. Sébastien welcomes you to his cellar to help you discover his wines. These wines are made from vines around 60 years old. Some are even a hundred years old. However, Sébastien Gutty has chosen to renew certain plots in order to develop his growing methods. He takes particular care to work the grapes without chemical fertilisers, harvesting by hand before ageing the wine in wooden tuns for 6 to 12 months. This produces fruity wines, typical of Gamay. These wines are easy to drink as an aperitif or with food.

Château Gaillard Open daily from 1 April to 31 December, 10am to 5pm,
