You have to imagine what Cluny was like in its day. Founded in 910, this abbey had a major influence on Christianity throughout the Middle Ages. At the time, it was the largest abbey ever built and, by the end of the 11th century, it was at the head of a network of 1,400 outbuildings. Unfortunately, this jewel of Romanesque art was dismantled during the French Revolution. All that remains are a few fragments, which unfortunately do not always convey what this majestic edifice once was. Fortunately, new technologies now allow us to imagine the gigantism of the site at the height of its glory. In addition to Cluny, southern Burgundy boasts a rich religious heritage, with a number of very fine French-speaking churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
