Ch\u00e2tillon consists of a medieval village built on terraces on the promontory formed by the confluence of the Alix stream and the Azergues river, as well as a 19th-century village located on the plain.<\/p>\n\n

The medieval centre, with its narrow streets and sloping passageways, preserves many heritage features protected by the local urban planning regulations: Gothic or Renaissance windows, 17th-century flat mullioned windows, hemp corbels, and other remarkable architectural details.<\/p>\n\n

Two buildings are listed as historic monuments: the castle chapel (since 1862) and the fortress (since 1937).<\/p>\n\n
